Dr. Macri has trained and practices extensively in cognitive behavior therapy (CBT) and its application to the treatment of anxiety and depression. CBT is an evidence based approach which focuses on identifying and changing maladaptive or irrational thoughts “cognitions” into healthier, positive and less distorted thinking patterns. The behavior component of CBT allows the person to practice this new way of thinking in their everyday life. Treatment can also focus on learning new and positive behavior patterns, and gradually approaching a challenging or fearful situation in manageable stages. This type of treatment has been most beneficial in the treatment of anxiety and depression.
Dr. John Macri has augmented his practice with research that focuses on the treatment of specific phobias and anxiety disorders. His master’s thesis and doctoral dissertation examined the effective usage of cognitive and behavioral techniques in the treatment of anxiety.
Dr. Macri has applied these evidence based techniques in his current practice to an array of life circumstances such as:
- Anxiety/Stress Management
- Phobias
- Depression
- Insomnia
- Relaxation Training
- Public Speaking
- Life Transition
- Chronic Pain
- Physical Challenges
- Low Self Esteem
